Search Engine Update Monitor is a tool that detects an ongoing Google update by unusual unusual volatility in search results.
It currently shows Semrush Sensor data. The old version is discontinued and available here.
How does it work?
It checks the ranking positions of a fixed set of keywords every day and compares them with the previous day's results. The more rankings change, the higher the search volatility score.
What do the scores mean?
The volatility score ranges from 0 to 10.
- 0 to 2: Stable search results
- 2 to 5: Normal daily fluctuations
- 5 to 8: High volatility
- 8 to 10: Very high volatility
Does a high score indicate an ongoing Google Search update?
Not necessarily. A score above 5 indicates unusually high search volatility, which often occurs during a Google Search algorithm update. However, rankings can also shift significantly for other reasons.
Where can I find confirmed Google updates?
Google publishes confirmed Search ranking updates in the Google Search Status Dashboard. It includes a history since 2021 with the start date, end date, and status of each update.
