AppDynamics is an application performance monitoring platform, now part of the 
Splunk Observability portfolio, that provides real-time visibility into applications, infrastructure, and user experience across cloud and on-premises environments.
It traces requests across distributed systems using agents that follow business transactions from frontend services to backend databases, applies dynamic baselines with anomaly detection to identify performance issues, and supports monitoring of modern architectures including microservices and containerized environments.
Istio is an open-source service mesh that secures, connects, and monitors services in 
Kubernetes, virtual machines, and multi-cloud environments.
It can run with 
Envoy proxies injected into each service or in a proxy-free ambient mode, and provides canary releases, load balancing, circuit breakers, mutual TLS authentication, and observability through metrics, logs, and distributed traces for Prometheus and 
Grafana.
